In spring 2012, the HIVE instructor team worked with student builders to create students' imaginary future Chicago in 2112. They created theme-based spaces based on their proposals and collaborated with other student builders. Students hosted a real-time event to showcase their projects to global audiences.

In fall 2011, the HIVE instructor team taught 3D virtual worlds to art club students at Schaumburg H.S. every Wednesday afternoon from 3-4:30pm. In the first 6 weeks, the students learned how to personalize their avatar appearance and explored their identity through designing two avatar outfits that represented their identity and social role in one societal community.

In Dr. Lilly Lu’s technology course, art education students in teams created 3D virtual art spaces that respond to social issues. They also designed and hosted real-time events for global audiences to participate in and explore their virtual spaces.

On Oct. 22, 2011, we hosted a booth to showcase the HIVE students’ projects in the HIVE Opensim environment in the STEMfest hosted by Northern Illinois University for at least 3000 participants, including K-12 students, parents, and educators. They used guest avatars to visit the HIVE virtual worlds and checked out student projects there.
